Fans of EastEnders were devastated by the shocking departure of a beloved character.

On Thursday’s (June 23) episode of EastEnders, Nancy Carter (Maddy Hill), who had only recently returned to the Square, abruptly left the Square.
Nancy bid goodbye to Walford during the EastEnders episode after learning that her lover Zack Hudson (James Farrar) had cheated on her with Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf).
She thought about forgiving him, but she made the decision to move to Manchester after realising that their relationship will never be the same.
Nancy also came to terms with her mother Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) alcoholism and realised she was no longer able to support or trust her.
Due to Linda’s illness, Nancy even thought about taking her infant sister Annie with her, but she ultimately opted to leave Annie at Walford after Linda wailed and objected.

Nancy bid farewell to her family, Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), Shirley Carter (Linda Henry), and Frankie Lewis as she boarded a taxi out of the Square (Rose Ayling-Ellis).
It’s been nice going back to Nancy and the Square over the past year, but it felt like the appropriate time to move on for the moment, the actress Maddy said in a conversation with Digital Spy(opens in new tab). I’m already missing everyone and am incredibly appreciative of my coworkers.
“We wish Maddy all the very best for the future,” a BBC spokeswoman continued.
Nancy made her debut appearance on the Square in 2014, and she left in 2016 to tour the world with her ex-boyfriend Tamwar Masood (Himesh Patel).

When she returned to the Square last year, it was discovered that Nancy and Tamwar were divorcing. The couple later got married in Australia and moved to New Zealand.
Fans expressed their dismay at Maddy’s abrupt departure on Thursday and best wishes for her future success away from our screens.
