Neighbours fans call for Guy Pearce and more to return for revival

What people want to see from the soap when it travels to Freevee has been voiced by fans.

Following the month-old Amazon Freevee rescue of Australian soap opera Neighbours, fans will be able to visit Ramsay Street once more.

After 37 years on our screens, the series came to an end in July. However, in a major shake-up, the streaming giant announced on November 17 that it would be bringing the soap opera back after all.

It will once again follow the lives of the adored residents of Erinsborough and is scheduled to resume filming in Australia early the following year.

Thousands of previous episodes from the show will also be streamable on Amazon FreeVee as an added bonus for devoted viewers who want to catch up on earlier plotlines.

All set to make comebacks are Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy), Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy), and Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson).

So what might viewers expect when the show returns? When RadioTimes.com posted a request on Twitter, fans of soap operas responded with suggestions.

Following his appearance in the show’s star-studded conclusion, viewers were hoping that Hollywood actor Guy Pearce would return to Ramsay Street. One fan even called for “the return of Guy Pearce.”

Some viewers were hoping for a happy ending for Pearce’s character Mike Young and his former on-screen love interest Jane Harris (played by Annie Jones). One fan Tweeted that “Mike ‘works away’ while Jane lives with his daughter,” while another stated that they would like to see the couple reunite “if that’s possible.”

Another viewer demanded that the show remain “the same as it was before in terms of tone and diversity of characters,” as well as calling for higher production standards and more on-location filming. They wrote: “Before it was axed, they had started to go on location more and filmed in a style that was more reminiscent of a high-quality drama you’d expect to see at 9pm and that was GREAT!”

Another fan requested “bigger house sets” and “location shooting” in agreement.

The show would benefit from having “a good range of ages; a good blend of comedy and drama; a bit of a shake up in the cast (some were due to leave I reckon)” while keeping “some of those very strong newer characters (Freya, Levi, Kiri, Nic),” according to another viewer.

It appears that the show’s delicate balance of serious plotlines and lighter comedic moments continues to be a big draw for viewers, and some are hoping that the reboot will maintain “the perfect blend of drama and humour.”

Additionally, they hoped for happiness for David and Aaron and Jane and Mike and wished for “more Freya, Mackenzie, Nicolette, and the Rodwells.” Izzy and Shane” in addition to “new families and characters.”

The most contentious request for change came from a fan who said: “All I want different is a new opening set of titles and theme tune with original lyrics.”

When the show returns to our screens the following year, we’ll have to wait and see if any of these fan expectations are realised.
